Like most people, you’re probably pretty attached to your phone, right? Well, Fone King is here to tell you that is ok! However, time waits for no man (or electronic device), and sooner or later you’re going to inevitably need to upgrade. Here are our top 7 reasons why it might be time to invest in a new phone:
Your contract has expired
If your phone was part of your contract with a network provider, check whether you have paid the device off yet. If you have, not only is it a great time to shop around to make sure you are still on the plan that suits you best, but you may be able to get a new phone at the same time.
Network providers, such as Telstra and Optus, will often have deals on handsets, so check and see if you can upgrade without significantly increasing what you pay.
You phone is getting slow
What most people do not realise is that when you update your phone’s software, usually the new version will require more processing power to run efficiently. After a while these updates become too big for older models to handle comfortably and so you may see your phone start to slow down or become buggy. In the worst cases, the phone may even freeze.
There’s no real fix for this either, so if this is starting to happen to you, your best option will almost certainly be to upgrade to a newer model that can handle the latest software.
The battery is dying
Over time your phone battery will hold less and less charge, no matter what you do. Of course, you can replace the battery which could give your phone an extra year or two, but if you have done this once before, you may get more value from investing in a newer device.
You can no longer do updates
At some point the latest software updates will stop being compatible with older model phones as they just do not have the processing power or memory to run them. Likewise, App Developers also do not make their updates compatible with older versions of software either.
Whilst you may be able to run older versions of apps for a while, eventually they will just stop working, and when this happens, it may be a sign that you need an upgrade.
The specs of the phone no longer meet your requirements
When the tech companies release their new devices, they always try to upgrade the specs on the previous model, such as more storage, faster processors and better cameras.
If you are finding your current phone is no longer giving you enough in these areas for what you want, a new device is the way to go.
To complete your tech ecosystem
The ‘ecosystem’ is a bit of a buzz word for tech companies and tech-heads at the moment. What it essentially means is having all your devices be fully compatible with each other, so that you can easily switch between them with the most seamless user experience. This is not only highly satisfying but may also save you time and make your life easier.
This is something that Apple in particular have made themselves known for with the iPhone, iPad, MacBook, Apple Watch and AirPods all designed to work cohesively together, but many other tech companies, including Samsung and Google do this as well.
If your phone isn’t working with the rest of your tech, it may be time to upgrade to one that does.
Your phone is damaged and not worth repairing
Most damage can be repaired by a good technician, but if your device is more than five years old you may get more long-term value from investing in a new phone than just repairing your existing one.
We recommend you still check out the cost of repair in any case, because it may be less than you think and, once repaired, your old phone can be used as a backup or traded in to get money off your new device.
